GENERAL INFORMATION

Our school year lasts from September to June and has 36 private lessons. Lessons are weekly with the exception of school holidays.

Violin/viola students participate in 16 group lessons per year.

Students participate in monthly recitals as well as winter and spring concerts at the Market Hall.

VIOLIN/VIOLA

Our beginner violin program is based on the Suzuki Mother Tongue method, pioneered by Japanese educator Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. The method emphasises aural training and technique taught through simple and fun games. For more information about this method, please visit the Suzuki Association website.

For young students under age 13, one parent attends all lessons and takes the musical journey with the child. The parent acquires all the skills necessary to become the teacher at home during practice sessions. Reading music and basic theory concepts are introduced shortly after lessons begin.

Advanced students are encouraged to take part in Music Festivals such as the Peterborough Kiwanis Music Festival, or to pursue RCM exams as part of their learning.
